Hard surface modeling with subvdivision surfaces can be challenging. Learning techniques for blending smooth curves with rigid edges takes time, practice and patience. Even experienced modelers can run into problems with complex shapes. This course, taken from a university 3d modeling class, uses toys models as the vehicles for exploring the ins and outs of SubD modeling. Even with upcoming Pixar SubDs in Modo 501, the need for proper edge-loop modeling remains important to gain complete control over the nature of rigid forms.
